WELCOME TO OUR GALLERY ON AFRICAN MAHOGANY WOOD PLAQUES (STYLE CATEGORIES 1.3.1 & 1.3.2)
Welcome to our photo Gallery for our African Mahogany wood plaques, where we show over 50 examples of various types of natural and stained Mahogany wood plaques in this photo gallery. We design and fabricate hundreds of beautiful custom 3-D and 2.5-D Mahogany wood plaques each year for military units, police & sheriffs, courts, universities, fraternities & sororities, clubs, corporations, government agencies, and homes.
Each plaque is custom crafted by our experienced and skilled craftsmen and artisans. We use several carving techniques such a 3-D bas-relief, 2.5-D flat relief (raised text and art), sandblasting, and engraving (both U and V-carved profiles). We also use many Minwax stain colors, but sometimes use no stain and leave the wood its natural color, on these impressive and authentic wood plaques which will retain their beauty over many decades. We also make plaques that utilize other features, such as 24K gold-leaf, carved 3-D HDU appliques, digitally-printed colored vinyl photos, and engraved brass plates. We spray all plaques with two coats of Matthews polyurethane acrylic clear coat for maximum protection and lifetime. All our wood plaques are moisture-proof, non-fading, graffiti-resistant and long-lasting, and can be placed outdoors as well as indoors.
This Gallery describes and shows over fifty examples of our Mahogany wood plaques. We offer several carving techniques, special features and plaque sizes for our wood plaques, each with different prices. The prices for each of these different styles for various size plaques is given on the PRICE webpage , listed by style and plaque size. African Mahogany 3-D plaques have higher prices than 2.5-D plaques because of the additional labor and time to carve and hand-sand them. Prices also depend on plaque size, which varies depending on wood availability and lumber prices, and any special features. Prices are higher for plaques that have some areas painted with an artist brush, have 24K gold-leafed text or artwork, or have engraved brass plates. African Mahogany is our favorite hardwood for carving rich-looking, elegant plaques. The photo on the right shows a Mahogany plaque carved in 3-D bas-relief. It carves very well, has uniform color, and will last forever. We only use heartwood, which is pale reddish-brown The wood is durable and has a fine fairly regular grain; it is easy to work and season but is difficult to impregnate. It takes time to carve, and does not absorb a stain well because of its high density. It usually has to be stained at least 3 times. The wood commands a very high price on the market, and is used above all woods for high-quality cabinet work, furniture and expensive interior finishing. Our best wood plaques are made from African Mahogany. They also look great when stained dark with V-carved text gilded with 24K gold leaf. WM1180, WM1200 and WM1210 in the gallery below show examples of gold leaf on mahogany plaques. The colors vary on the Mahogany plaques shown in the gallery below. the lighter colored ones are not stained, only clear coated. The darker ones are stained. You have a choice of any of the 24 Minwax stain colors, but we usually use Red Mahogany (for a reddish color) or Walnut (for a darker plaque).
Perpetual Plaques. Perpetual plaques are large wood wall plaques that have small name plates attached to them. These can be added to over the years, so space is left for these additional plaques. Perpetual plaques can be used for clubs, military, businesses, sport teams or other organizations where the names can be officers, award winners, club champions, tournament winners, etc. We make dozens of large perpetual plaques each year, usually from Mahogany wood. These can have custom 3-D brass logos, seals, insignia or text mounted on the top of the plaque. A few of these are shown at the bottom of this page, photos WM1530 to WM1580.
